Damascus, June 2, 2026 – Believing in the pivotal role of the textile sector in supporting economic recovery and driving production, the management of the Syrian International Textile Exhibition (NasTex) successfully concluded its most prominent side-event titled “Reviving the Textile Sector in Syria”.
The session was held on June 1st at the “Conference Palace” in Damascus, as part of the National Private Sector Conference in Syria (PSD-2026). The conference was organized by the Ministry of Economy and Industry in the Syrian Arab Republic and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with support from the Government of Japan.
This session solidified the strategic vision of the “NasTex” exhibition, affirming its role as an incubator for strategic dialogue and a true supporter of industrial investment, rather than just a trade fair.
Effective Dialogue and Balanced Representation
The session successfully gathered government entities, chambers of industry, investors, and experts within an effective dialogue space. The event featured exceptional moderation and in-depth discussions by a distinguished lineup of speakers:
- Mr. Osama Al-Omar: Director of the Planning and Statistics Directorate at the Ministry of Economy and Industry.
- Mr. Mohammed Badarneh: CEO of NasTex.
- Mr. Hussam Eddin Al-Tatri: Chairman of the Syrian-Turkish Business Council and Chairman of Al-Tatri Industrial Group.
- Ms. Paula Valencia: Deputy Country Coordinator and Director of the “Weaving Hope” Initiative at the International Labour Organization (ILO).
- Mr. Jamil Kalsi: Automation and Technology Expert, Chairman of Access Group.
Strategic Themes and a Practical Roadmap
The session transparently reviewed investment opportunities in the textile and clothing sector and discussed major industrial and economic challenges. Participants concluded with an actionable roadmap that supports integration between industry, investment, and decision-making. Key focuses included: enhancing regional integration, transitioning towards automation technologies (Industry 4.0), and overcoming obstacles related to energy, financing, and human resources.
