Under the patronage of President Ahmed Al Shar’a, NasTex founder Fadi AlAhmad (Almheimed) opened the launch conference of NASTEX 2026 in Damascus with a powerful and inspiring speech. His address highlighted the deep historical roots of the Syrian textile industry and presented a clear vision for its revival and future growth. The event gathered notable business leaders, government representatives, and key industrial and commercial figures.
Damascus؛ A City Defined by Its Thread Before Its Map
Fadi AlAhmad (Almheimed) began his speech with a symbolic and thought-provoking statement:
“Civilizations are built with the sword and the thread… with the power that protects, and the creativity that builds.”
He welcomed attendees to Damascus, the city historically known as “the thread before the map.” A city where textiles were once a language, a memory, and a cultural bridge connecting people, and connecting Syria with the world.
From its historic markets came the word “Damasko,” still synonymous with luxury in global textile markets, while Aleppo’s renowned Khan Al-Harir (Silk Khan) produced some of the world’s finest fabrics and decorative patterns.
A Global Market؛ And Syria Is an Original Part of It
AlAhmad (Almheimed) presented striking figures about the size and growth of the global textile market:
- Industry value in 2020: $2 trillion
- Expected to exceed $4 trillion within eight years
- Average annual growth rate: 7%
He emphasized that this is not a marginal sector, but one of the world’s largest industries, one where Syria must regain an active and influential share.
Supported by a national vision under the patronage of President Ahmed Al Shar’a, NasTex aims to contribute:
- $28 billion to Syria’s GDP
- 800,000 direct and indirect job opportunities
He described the textile sector as:
“White gold that must not remain buried.”
Drawing inspiration from countries like China, Turkey, and Bangladesh, whose economies were significantly built on the textile sector, he stressed its advantages: ease of workforce training, low operational costs, and global demand.
