The Minister of Economy and Industry, Dr. Mohammad Nidal Al-Shaar, unveiled a comprehensive vision to revive the Syrian textile sector during the announcement conference of the NasTex 2026 exhibition, held in Damascus under the patronage of the President of the Syrian Arab Republic, Ahmed Al Shar’a, and attended by ministers, officials, economists, businessmen, and industrialists.
Strong Will and Optimism for the Future
The Minister opened his speech with a powerful statement expressing great optimism for a near future in which the textile sector in Syria will rise again, saying:
“One day soon, God willing, this fabric and everything we wear here will be from the factories of Aleppo and Damascus.”
A phrase that carried a clear promise that the textile industry will not only return but rise once again to become one of Syria’s leading fronts in the region and the world.
Major International Partnerships to Drive Development
Minister Al-Shaar revealed a clear vision aimed at restoring Syria’s historical role in exporting fabrics to countries around the world, highlighting the importance of building partnerships with major nations in this field, from Turkey, with which Syria shares a full textile and yarn value chain, to China, with its expertise and industrial weight.
A Vital Role Awaiting Expatriate Industrialists
From the launch conference of NasTex 2026, Minister Al-Shaar extended greetings to Syrian industrialists who established factories in the Gulf countries, Turkey, China, and others during the difficult times imposed by the previous regime. He invited them to actively participate in restoring the glory of this industry through unified efforts from both inside and outside the country.

An Integrated Economic and Technological Plan
Minister Al-Shaar outlined the features of the upcoming stage and its requirements, starting with the economic revival represented by cultivating primary raw materials—from cotton to fiber-producing plants—which form the foundation of the first phase of this revival.
He promised to revive cotton fields and increase their productivity using modern irrigation techniques, improved seeds, and scientific agricultural management.
These steps, with their outcomes, will form the basis of the second phase of this revival: modernizing spinning and weaving machinery and establishing dyeing and finishing lines that match the highest global standards.
The Minister also promised to transform factories into productive environments relying on clean energy, artificial intelligence, and total quality management systems—so that Syrian fabric not only matches but surpasses the best global industrial outputs.

A Clear Production Framework and an Open Call to Investors
Minister Al-Shaar affirmed the existence of a plan to establish specialized industrial zones, advanced logistical ports, and research and development centers that connect universities with the private sector, to create a new generation of manufacturers who do not stop at skill but add innovation on top of skill.
He concluded by inviting all investors inside and outside Syria to secure a place in history by contributing to restoring the brilliance of this vital national sector, saying:
“Whoever builds with us today is not weaving a project or a deal… but weaving for himself a place in a history being reborn.”
The Minister ended his speech with a sentence highlighting the importance of the textile sector in Syria:
“When the looms of Syria move, history moves.”
